Offering Young People in the District great Scouting experiences is only made possible by a team of amazing volunteers. There are a wide variety of roles in Scouting, and most of them do not commit you to regular weekly attendance, but may involve once a month, or weekends. Volunteering is flexible, it is up to you how much time you put in!

Group Scout Leader
The Group Scout Leader (GSL) is appointed by the District to oversee the running of a Scout Group. This will involve supporting volunteers in running programmes and activities, encourage training, and ensuring the Group is financially stable. It is a big job, but a rewarding one. Full guidance and support is provided to help you make the most out of this exciting opportunity.

Assistant District Commissioner (Cubs)
The Assistant District Commissioner (Cubs) (ADC Cubs for short) is appointed by the District to oversee the running of a Cub sections across the District. This will involve supporting volunteers in running programmes and planning exciting activities that involve Young People from multiple Groups. The ADC Cubs will take the Cub section further and be helped by an amazing team of Cub Leaders.

District Explorer Scout Commissioner
The District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) is appointed by the District Commissioner to oversee the running of the Explorer and Young Leader Units. This will involve supporting volunteers in running programmes and planning exciting activities that involve Young People from multiple Units. You will also help co-ordinate our Young Leader programme, which is dedicated to putting our Young People in leadership positions so they can gain vital #SkillsForLife. The DESC will be fully supported by a small team of Explorer Leaders. The DESC is also a Charity Trustee and will be part of our Governing Body. This is a key role in the District.

Secretary to the Executive Committee
The Secretary to the Executive Committee is a Charity Trustee position. You will be part of the Governing Body of the Charity (Lowry District Scout Council). The main responsibilities of the Secretary are sending out Agendas, taking minutes, and collecting the Census details. The role will have full support and training provided by the District Chairperson and the District Commissioner.

Member of the Executive Committee
As a Member of the Executive Committee you will be a Charity Trustee. This means you will be part of the Governing Body of the Charity (Lowry District Scout Council). As a member you will have voting rights to make Executive decisions about how our charity is governed. It is a great opportunity to gain experience at the Executive level of a charity.
