Cub Scouts is the second section of the Scout Group following on from Beaver Scouts. They are young people aged between eight and ten and half years old. They will get the opportunity to try lots of different activities and will work towards badges including the top award – the Chief Scout Silver Award.
Cubs enjoy new adventures while making friends along the way. Their commitment is recognised by over thirty activity badges! As well as regular weekly meetings, Cubs also enjoy activity days and weekend camps. Cubs enjoy:
Cubs normally meet weekly for around one to one a half hours in a Pack. Packs usually have an opening and closing ceremony. After a few weeks of attending pack meetings and learning about Cubs, a young person will be invited to be invested where they will receive their Group necker and badges relating to Scouting, County, District and Group. Within their Pack, Cubs are also part of a Six. A Six is a smaller unit of Cubs, headed up by a Sixer and a Seconder. Sixers and Seconders are Cubs who are chosen to take on leadership responsibilities, such as welcoming new people to the Pack, being extra helpful on camp, or taking charge of a game or activity.
Tony is the Programme Team Member for Cubs. He is responsible for ensuring that all young people in Beavers have fun and leave after 2 years with #SkillsForLife.
Sometime Cubs get together with 2 or 3 other Packs or with all of the other Cubs in Salford. This enables a wider range of activities and gives the opportunity for Cubs to meet new friends, work with Cubs whom they have not met before and take part in competitions.
District activities have included camps, sleepovers, football competitions, visits and activity days. We also take part in events such as St George’s Day celebrations and Remembrance Sunday Parades with all the other sections in the Scouting family from around the District.
